I was so very sorry to learn of Aunt Mary's passing. She is a figure that looms very large throughout my childhood - encouraging my writing by being a faithful pen pal and always showing me the best of hospitality when I was in town. I will never forget how she took a "mental health day" (the first time I ever heard of the idea!) to spend the day shopping with me and my mother. I'll never admiring a set of jaunty ceramic egg cups featuring ducks and rabbits and she scooped it up for me, insisting that sometimes you had to treat yourself to something impractical (another new concept for me!) Most of all, I remember when I got married that she came up to me at the reception and told me that I was the perfect bride and it somehow meant the world to me that such a compliment came at the end of the night - I knew the reception had passed muster and that we had pulled off the event! She will forever remain one of the most encouraging and buoyant figures of my life.

A long journey has ended and Mary is at peace. As a family member (cousin) to Mary I remember her as a young girl living on Buckingham Street in Halifax. I remember Mary dishing up Bon-Bons at the Simpson's candy counter and as a cousin always got a good measure!! We stayed connected all these years and always enjoyed her stories of life in Halifax in the 50's. I was an usher at Mary and Alberts wedding almost 50 years ago!! A full life well spent and for anyone who knew Mary she handled her illness on "Her" terms!! Rest I. peace "Cuz" - Fred and Lynn O'Hearn
