Obituary of David Allan MacDonald
David Allan MacDonald died on February 14, 2024, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and his son, Robert “Austin” MacDonald.
Born in Halifax on November 5, 1954, to Allan and Anne MacDonald (née White), David was proud to be a lifelong Haligonian. David grew up on the corner of Robie Street and Jubilee Road and attended Queen Elizabeth High School.
David was intelligent and inquisitive. He attended Dalhousie University and graduated with his Bachelor of Commerce in 1975, going on to study Internet Technology at the DeVry Technical Institute in Toronto. David could be counted on to know the latest current events and news stories. He read the daily newspaper faithfully and never shied away from a spirited discussion.
David enjoyed nature, observing local wildlife, and gardening – a hobby surely inspired by years of living so close to the Halifax Public Gardens. He especially loved walks with his dog, Jake, through Sir Sanford Fleming Park. David’s extensive knowledge of the city and its history made him an excellent tour guide for family and friends visiting Halifax.
David was passionate about sports, particularly hockey, and often reminisced about his days as a lifeguard along the Northwest Arm. Some of his fondest memories were of travelling with his son to watch NASCAR races. Family trips to Cape Canaveral, Florida, and summer vacations in PEI were also highlights. David will be remembered as a devoted father.
In 2018, David received the invaluable gift of a kidney transplant. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider donating to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, so others can benefit from their life-changing work.
A memorial service will be held at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home on Monday, February 19 at 11:00 AM. A reception at the same location will follow.
