Obituary of Wallace E Matthews
MATTHEWS, Wallace Edgar CM - Age 93, of Halifax, passed away on Tuesday, February 7th 2023, in the QEII Victoria General Site. Born in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Wallace Edgar and Hazel May (Butt) Matthews.
He had been employed with the Ship Repair Unit (Atlantic), retiring after 45 years of service as Group Manager, Paint and Shipwright shops. He had been a Red Cross Blood Donor for 50 years, contributing 165 whole blood donations. He was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1967 for service to the Nation. A leader in the Boy Scout Movement in his younger days, he had been awarded the Long Service Medal. He was a member of Fairview United Church, served as an elder for many years, clerk of Session and trustee for several years and many other committees. He was known for his life long generosity and service to others.
He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel Sanford; son, Clifford; daughter, Ethel Isenor (Randy); grandchildren, Elizabeth Isenor (Matthew Parliament), Katie Isenor (Grant Thomas), Angela Isenor, Jordan Matthews, Bradley Matthews; brother, John Matthews (Donna); great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Samuel, Thomas, Victoria, Andrew, Blake, Regan, Sloan, Hanes. He was
predeceased by sisters, Elsie in infancy, and Dorothy Johnson.
Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd.,149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. In keeping with Wallace’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 16th, 1:00 pm at Fairview United Church, 3524 Dutch Village Road, Halifax.
