Obituary of Althea Vye

90, passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Born in Fosterville, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Edith Farrell. Bunny will be truly missed as she was a loving mother, adoring grandmother and loyal friend. Her pleasant smile and caring personality defined her character. Bunny graduated from Normal School in Fredericton and taught for a year in Perth Andover. She later married and moved to the Miramichi where she lived until four years ago when she moved to the Halifax area. During her lifetime, Bunny was actively involved in her community. She was a member of the Eastern Star-Prince Charles Chapter, where she held the position of Worthy Matron. She was also appointed a Grand Representative commissioned to a chapter in British Columbia. Over the years, Bunny was a member of St. Mark’s United Church in Douglastown. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served on the Board of Stewarts, was a member of the U.C.W. and visited the sick and shut-in for the church. She received the Merit Award for years of volunteer work which included Meals On Wheels – 20+ years, served on the Board of Directors for the Food Bank, assisted with taking meals to the Salvation Army once a month and volunteered at the hospital and gift shop. Her passions included spending time with family and friends, playing golf, line dancing, bowling and playing bridge. She enjoyed many wonderful summers with family and friends at the cottage in East Point. She is survived by daughter, Debby (Roger) White; 2 sons, Glen (Beth) Vye and Derek (Kathy) Vye; grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Jonathan White; Erin (Vye) Cogswell; Wendell Vye and Samantha (Vye) Seely; great grandchildren, Andrea White; William White; Mya and Riley Cogswell; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Bunny was predeceased by her best friend and husband, William (Bill) Vye, her only sibling, Horace Farrell and eldest granddaughter, Amanda Vye. A special thank you is extended to the staff on Point Pleasant Way, Parkstone-Enhanced Care for all of your care and compassion. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 4th at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church, 188 Wellington Street, Chatham NB. There will be a reception in the church hall following the service with interment at St. Marks United Church Cemetery, Douglastown at 4 p.m. Prior to the funeral service, there will be an Eastern Star service beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
