Obituary of Josephine "Josie" Ann Murphy
Murphy, Josephine Ann “Josie”: 86, Halifax. It is with heavy hearts, that we, the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Josephine Murphy, on September 18, 2018 at Melville Lodge. She was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Peach) Cooper. Throughout her life, Josie was a strong and caring lady, who was dedicated to her family, always putting them before herself. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She was a quiet lady of few words but had a quick wit and loved to play cards. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly, and will be remembered for her love of them and animals. She is survived by her sons, James (Yvonne), Vincent, Joseph, Robert, William and Ralph, and her daughters, Cathy (Jim, also affectionately known as her “errand boy”), Joanne, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Sherry, Jamie, John, Jordan, Cindy, Bubba, Victoria, Joanna, Natasha, Stevie, and Michael, her 8 great-grandchildren, Katie, Matt, Tyler, Hayley, Nicholas, Darius, Ghyslaine and Ava, as well as a special niece, Christine, who always made sure Josie got to church on Sunday. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent John Murphy in 1971, a son, Martin Edward Murphy, a brother, Arthur, and a grandson, Corey.
As requested by Josie, cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A private family interment will follow. Family flowers only by request, in lieu, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
