Obituary of Ernest Marriott
MARRIOTT, Ernest Raymond 75, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 4, 2010, in Northwood Care Centre. He was the son of the late Richard and Rose (Wilson) Marriott. Ernest worked many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Armdale Fire Department, drove for Irving Oil for 23 years, and for 20 years he worked with the City of Halifax as a gardener in the Public Gardens. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and a softball player; he also loved music. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends. Ernest is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Bonnevie); sons, Larry (Mary) Marriott, grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Ashley, great-grandchild, Tyler; son, Stephen (Beverly) Marriott; grandchildren, Brad and Dale; daughter, Christine (Donald) Gabriel; grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicole; brother, Stan (Muriel) Marriott; sisters, Florence Jollimore and Delores (David) Cribbs; many nieces and nephews and cousins, special nieces, Rose and Nancy-Jean. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold, John, Rueben; sisters, Lillian, Nancy, Ivy, Mary and Doris. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. Spryfield (477-5601) where visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Friday, January 8, at 10 a.m. from The Anglican Parish of St. James, 2668 Joseph Howe Dr., Armdale with The Rev. Canon Rod Gillis officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private family interment to follow the reception. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Red Cross Society.
