Obituary of Francis "Frank" Oakley
OAKLEY, Francis Arthur "Frank" 91, Halifax, passed away December 18, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Fred and Bertha (Coolen) Oakley. Frank was a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, he had also served during the Second World War. He was a long serving member of the Halifax Rifles, Granite Lodge Br. No. 158 IOOF for 59 years, lifetime member of the Halifax Antique Car Club, Young at Heart Choir and a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of Canada for 10 years. Frank is survived by sons, Jeffery, Leonard (Marlene), both of Halifax: brothers, Ralph, Ont.; Bruce, Germany, Europe; Carl, New Brunswick; sisters, Marie, Betty, both of Ontario; grandchildren, Pat, Jill; great-grandson, Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mildred (Watts); brothers, Fred, John, Earl; sisters, Marjorie and Marion. Arrangements under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax (477-5601) where visiting will be held today 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Emmanuel Anglican Church, Spryfield, Tuesday at 10 a.m., Rev. Diana Brett-Frye officiating. Reception to follow in church hall. Burial to take place at a later date in the parish cemetery (Sussex Street). Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the care and compassion given to Frank by the staff, while a resident of Melville Gardens.
