Obituary of Ronald Algee
ALGEE, Ronald Charles 82, Halifax, beloved husband of Minnie "Mickey" (Harvey) Algee, passed away peacefully October 19, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Purcell's Cove, he was a son of the late Keith and Madeline (Purcell) Algee. Ron was a member of the Reserve Army, Royal Canadian Artillery. Throughout his life, Ron had worked at the Halifax Shipyard, Hermes Electronics, and Pelham Electric. He was a co-founder with his brother-in-law, John Obritsch, of the Airlane Golf Course. He loved music and instruments, especially the piano and organ, which he proudly played for many years. Ron was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with nature. He loved his family dearly and will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Minnie "Mickey"; his sons, Boyd (Cathy), Dartmouth, and Warren (Christine); his daughters, Lauretta Gray (Lloyd), Mary Ann Hollett (Wayne), all of Halifax and Greta Hanlon (Ron), Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers, Boyd (Marie) and Gary (Marie), both of Halifax; sisters, Phyllis Beattie, Berwick; Betty Obritsch (John), Halifax; Joan Obritsch (Joe), Medicine Hat, Sask.; Heather Gray, Beverley Demone (Barry), and Donna MacDonald (Paul), all of Sackville; brother-in-law, Ron Lane, Liverpool, and beloved cousin to Shirley Harvey, Halifax, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will forever be a treasured grandfather to Ronnie, Karen-Ann, Beth, Jennifer, Trevor, David, Lynette, Michael, Leo, Katie, Madeline, and Sean and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyler, Megan, Anthoney, Jeremy, Maddie, and Kingsley. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Carol Lane and Paulett Miller; sister Patricia in infancy, and brothers-in-law, Howard Gray, Kenneth Miller, and Tom Beattie. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff of Med/Surg/Neuro Intensive Care of 5.2, the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, for all of their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax, (477-5601), where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel.
