Obituary of Leonard Branton
BRANTON, Leonard Gordon - 82, Halifax, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Islington, NFLD, he was a son of the late Edward and Mabel (Peddle) Branton. Leonard immigrated to Canada in 1946 from Newfoundland, coming to Halifax to work as a Stevedore on the waterfront. He later went to work as a carpenter until his retirement. He loved his work and took great pride in it. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for 61 years and 10 months. Leonard was a man of great faith, who enjoyed dancing to his Newfoundland music. He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by son, George (Linda) Branton, PEI; daughter, Emma Branton (John Cusick), Halifax; grandchildren, Tina MacDonald, Steven Branton and Sarah MacKenzie; great-grandchild, Cody Dixon; companion Mabel Hollett; brother, Harrison, Ontario; sister, Lillian, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Jane (Legge); brothers, Roland, Charlie, Bob and Norman. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601) where visitation will be held on Friday, September 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 2 PM from Fairview United Church with Rev. Heather Fraser officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
