Obituary of Helena Mitchell

Mom was born Allena Donovan in New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, N.S. on January 19, 1918. In some real way she never left for that is where her fondest memories were: with two of her brothers looking for coal from Dominion's Number 2 and taking it home in a wheelbarrow to help heat the house at 439-3rd St.; going to the beach; skating; playing with the neighbours; going to the store down the street for candy.   Her family of origin was central to her life and her brothers and sisters (and in-laws as well) were welcome frequent visitors after she married and moved to Halifax in 1945. She married Charles Edward Mitchell in 1943 and her two children Brian Charles and Kevin Donovan were born in 1946 and 1950.    Mom opened her home to her relations for many years until she was no longer capable of doing so. After her husband passed in 1986, her son Kevin looked after her needs on a daily basis until his own passing in 2009. Until her move to White Hills Long Term Care in 2012, she was assisted by her relatives, neighbours and friends – particularly Michael Donovan, as her son Brian had moved to B.C. in 1970.   She is predeceased by her husband Charles, her son Kevin, her parents Martina and Isaac; her brothers George, Charlie, Neil and Don; her sisters, Ann, Mary Ella and Dorothy. She leaves her son, Brian (Jocelyne); grandchildren, Liam (Jeanette) and Aidan Falk (Barrett); great-grandchildren, Maeve and Ethan; and many grateful nieces and nephews.   A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 2 PM from St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS, followed by a gathering at 15 Caudle Park Crescent in Lower Sackville. (Thank you Bertille.).  Words of comfort and condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com    "Many thanks for everything. Praise, praise for it all." John Chrysostom (c349-407)
