SLAUENWHITE, Stanford Leroy "Stan"-85, went to be with his Lord peacefully at home at Stillwater Lake on December 30, 2008. Born in Middlewood, he was a son of Fred and Bessie (Feener) Slauenwhite. Stan is survived by his wife of 66 years Gloria (Rafuse); sons, Boyd (Barbara), Halifax; Barry (Sharon), London, Ont.; Stan Jr. (Debbie), Halifax; Mark (Brenda), Aylmer, Ont. He was predeceased by sons, Richard Earle (1949) and Keith Leroy (1992). He was also predeceased by granddaughter, Dawn Angela (1983), six brothers and two sisters. He will be remembered fondly by 14 grandchildren, Karen, Andrew,Stephen, Sandra, Adam, Paul, Lisa, Krista, Heather, Shaun, Jeffrey,Krysten, Andrew and Jessica, as well as 14 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by brothers, Edson, Vouglars Cove; Bernard, Conquerall Bank; Raymond, United States; and sisters, Mary Hodgerson and Mae Joudrey of Bridgewater. Stan had three distinct passions in his life: his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife and family, and carpentry. It was important for him to have these passions in the proper order and he lived his life as a devote Christian, a dedicated husband and father, and a creative craftsman and builder. He was a courageous and gifted entrepreneur who has left a great legacy of buildings (from churches and schools to apartments and houses)throughout Nova Scotia. Self taught, he tackled the most complex of projects which earned him a reputation for being a skilled and honest craftsman. Those who knew him knew his love for woodworking and until his body became too weak to function he could be found in his carpentry shop with a smile on his face and a song his heart. Stan was a well-respected member of Faith Tabernacle Church where he served for many years in various leadership roles including the board of deacons. He also served as the general contractor for the current church building. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many kind caregivers who extended compassionate care to Stan during his illness including: Palliative Care (Glenda Thornhill, coordinator), Home Care Nova Scotia, VON Halifax, The Nova Scotia Cancer Clinic. Family flowers only, donations may be directed to any of these charities. Special thanks to Dr Krista Thompson for her visits and care. Friends may visit the family at the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home 149 Hearing Cove Rd., Halifax (902-477-5601) on Saturday, January 3, at 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 5, at Faith Tabernacle Church, 6225 Windsor St. at Summit, Halifax at 10 a.m., with Rev. Barry Slauenwhite and Rev. John Cheyne officiating, internment at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Middlewood.
