Obituary of Marie Oakley
OAKLEY, Marie Bertha: 70. We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Marie Bertha Oakley on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the QEII Hospital. Born in New Waterford, NS, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha (Jones) Whitehouse. Marie was a retiree from Revenue Canada Taxation. She was an active and dedicated member of Curves. She was a member of the Fairview Legion, as well as a former member of the Mayflower Curling Club. Marie was an avid fan of Cole Harbour Ringette and Women’s Ball Hockey. She loved to spend hours crocheting and gardening. Marie will be remembered for her friendly and giving nature, as well as her devotion to her children. Marie is survived by her children, Roberta Gillespie (Steve), Ont., Wendy Burrell (Tom), Sackville, Gail Peterson (Herman), Halifax, Joanne Oakley (John), Mt. Uniacke, and Jamie Oakley (Debbie), Halifax, a brother, John Whitehouse, ON, as well as her seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Rachelle, Matthew, Justin, Doug, Jordan, and Thomas, and a great-grandson, Cameron. Marie enjoyed the company of many friends throughout the years, but her life was truly enriched by her dear friends, Jane Lane and Jennie Bowen. Marie was predeceased by her father and mother, and sister, Mary Oakley (Whitehouse), ON. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the QEII Hospital.
By request cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 10-11 AM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11AM.
