Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy

MURPHY, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” – 67, of Spryfield passed away peacefully on October 2, 2008 at the QEII hospital with family by her side. She was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Slaunwhite) Oakley. Betty was a life member of the Spryfield Royal Canadian Legion. She will be remembered as a vivid storyteller. Betty will lovingly be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, Peter (Laura), Williamswood, daughter, Lesa (Joseph), Halifax, brothers, Paul (Kim), Sackville, Billy (Wendy), Sackville, and Phillip (Donna), Halifax, and sister, Joan (Buddy), Halifax. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew, Joseph, Chelsea, P.J., Jeffrey and Lenny, as well as a special great-granddaughter, Sophia. She was predeceased by a son, Anthony. Arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, NS (477-5601). By request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, October 7 at 2 pm in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Herring Cove Road, Spryfield with Fr. Gerry Gauvreau as celebrant. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Scleroderma Association.
