Obituary of Robert "Bob" Dowling
DOWLING, Robert James “Bob” – 69, Halifax, passed away in the arms of his loving son, on Sunday, June 8, 2008 in the New Halifax Infirmary. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Charles and Nellie (Bennett) Dowling. Bob began his working career with the RHR Black Watch in Oromocto, NB, Camp Gagetown, and then later worked for the Department of Transport and then with the Coast Guard. Bob then worked until his retirement in 1993 for the City of Halifax as Supervisor of Engineering/Works. Bob will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his hard work and his love of animals. He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Dunbrack); sons Blair and Kevin, all of Halifax; grandson Shane; granddaughter Shawna; step-father, Tom Logan, Spryfield, brothers Walter (Wanda), Waterloo, ON; Donald (Jean), Mt. Uniacke; Colin (Judy) Calgary, AB; sisters Shirley (Don), Lower Sackville; Patricia, Halifax and Mary Ann, Calgary, AB; several nieces and nephews and numerous extended family. Bob was predeceased by his brother Charlie. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601). By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on June, 12 at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
