Obituary of Roland Baker
BAKER, Roland Frank, -77, Halifax, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 25, 2008, in the Victoria General Hospital. Born in Marie Joseph, Guysborough Co., April 23, 1931, Roland was the youngest son of the late Abram and Carrie (Murphy) Baker. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis (Langille), his sons Darrell (Kara), Halifax, Tim (Carla), Williamswood, and daughter Debbie (Mike) Kline, Halifax. Grandchildren, Jennifer (Farley) Langille, Colin, Samantha, Brent, Daniel and Gabrielle; sister Eileen (Harold) Sponagle; sisters-in-law, Prudence Baker, Marie Joseph; Evelyn Baker, Sheet Harbour. He was predeceased by brothers, Bridgeman, Gerald, Osborne (Grace), Weldon, Calvin (Florence), Clem; sisters, Viola (Bernie) Chambers and Louise (Tom) Williamson. He was employed for 44 years at Eastern Canada Towing Ltd., (formerly Foundation Company), in which he held various positions; seaman, construction crew, salvage crew, hard-hat diver and rigger. Special thanks to Drs. Howard Conter, Drew Bethune, H. Henteleff, Bruce Colwell and Lorrie (nurse). Also to the Nurses and staff of 6A and 11 North (chemo) of the QEII Health Sciences Centre (VG Site). By request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601). Private interment to follow at a later date.
