Obituary of Albert Peter Barnes
Barnes, Albert Peter: 81, Halifax, loving husband of Betty (Tanner) Barnes, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, with his family by his side. Born in Belloram, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Jemima (Williams) Barnes. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the Merchant Navy until 1953. He had been employed as a Longshoreman from 1955 until his retirement in 1991 with Halterm and Ceres. His co-workers often said he was one of the best crane operators. Peter enjoyed spending the camping months at Sullivan’s Campsite in Enfield, where he will be remembered for his horseshoe talents. Betty was his true love, but his 1996 Thunderbird was another of his passions. Peter was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, the former Betty Tanner, and his two sons, Thomas (Vicky) Barnes and John Barnes, both of whom he was so very proud. He will also be sadly missed by his only grandson, Colin, who he adored, and his sister, Winnie Bellmore, as well as many nieces and nephews all over Canada, the United Kingdom, and in Dubai. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Carl, Russel, and Cecil, and a sister, Ada Starling.
