Obituary of Cyril McSweeney

McSWEENEY, Cyril James "CeeJay" - 43, Calgary, Alta., formerly of Halifax, passed away in his sleep on April 6, 2008, at home. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of Anne (McSweeney) Grattan and the late Cyril Joseph McSweeney. Cyril is survived by his son, Francis, 8, and daughter, Katherine, 6, Lethbridge, Alta. He is also survived by his sisters, Rosanne (Alan) Daniels, Terrence Bay; Michelle Uwins, Halifax; stepsisters, Sharon (Pat) Murphy, Jeddore; Janet Grattan, Dartmouth; stepfather, Victor Grattan, Halifax; uncles, Alfred, Arthur (Jean) O'Donnell, Halifax; Gordon (Joan), James (May) O'Donnell, Dartmouth; Joseph (Charlene) McSweeney, Halifax; nieces, Mysti Uwins, Calgary, Alta.; Casandra and Samantha McSweeney-Daniels, Terence Bay. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Kathleen (Redmond) and James O'Donnell; stepgrandfather, Ralph J. Redmond; paternal grandparents, Evelyn (Moriarty) and Joseph McSweeney; and uncle and closest friend, Francis "Frankie" O'Donnell. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601). By family request there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, 2267 Brunswick St., Halifax, on Monday, April 21, at 10 a.m. with Father Zachary Romanowsky as celebrant. Following the service, CeeJay will be laid to rest with his father in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
