Obituary of James Brown
BROWN, James Edward, Major (Ret'd) - 76, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of "Jim" Brown on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by loving family and friends. Born in Sydney on August 19, 1931, Jim was a Cape Bretoner through and through. He was most content salmon fishing on the Margaree, spending time with good buddies and chuckling with his signature laugh at the many stories told "round the table". A proud Dad, a loving husband and a good friend to all, his inspiration and his truly original character will never be forgotten. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Robertson) Brown; daughters, Shawn (Jeff), Sackville, N.B.; Tanya (Bryan), Perth, Australia; Michele (Paul), Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, Oliver, Seth, Austen, Emerson, Hannah, and Eve; his sister, Jean Meagher, and niece, Gail. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed for his wit, his artistic and musical talent, his friendship, loyalty and love. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Banks, Dr. Ormille Hayne (ret'd), Dr. David Anderson, Dr. Nadia Murphy, Ron and the entire staff of the IMCU, Halifax Infirmary, QEII, and close friends, Father John O. Scott and Richard Knowles. In keeping with Jim's wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. A private family service will be on April 8 during the interment of ashes in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family invites you to raise a glass with them in Jim's honour at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jim's memory to the Margaree Salmon Association, P.O. Box 108, Margaree Centre, NS B0E 1Z0.
