Obituary of Paul Murray Charlton
CHARLTON, Paul Murray - 45, Halifax, passed away suddenly at home March 30, 2008. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Paul immigrated to Canada with his family in 1968 at the age of six. He spent his youth in Port Hawkesbury, was educated at SAERC and graduated in 1981. He was a member of the Port Hawkesbury Youth Band, active with the track and field athletics, and the chess club. Paul was an alumnus of St. Francis Xavier University and a graduate of the Lawrencetown Geographic Sciences School. He moved to Halifax as a young man. He was employed for the last 18 years with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission. He was a member of the St. Andrew's Lodge No. 1 AF & AM, Halifax and volunteered for several charities over the years. Paul was a generous and kind person to all who knew him. He possessed an unshakable belief in the goodness of people and was never as happy as when he was helping his fellow man. An avid reader, his interests in history, art and spiritual topics were unquenchable. Paul loved antiques and spent countless happy hours seeking out treasures. Paul is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 12 years, Lesley Ann (Jackson); parents, William and Glenda Charlton, Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Elaine Charlton, Halifax; Gail (Roger) McMullan, London, England, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, all residing in England and Scotland. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Maria Jackson, and brother-in-law, Christopher Jackson. He was a great lover of animals and will be greatly missed by his two beloved dogs, Daisy and Fergus. Resting in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601) where visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Purcell's Cove Rd., with Father John Fletcher officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any animal related charity.
