Obituary of Charles T. Hartlen
93, Halifax formerly of Terence Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary site, with family by his side. He was a son of the late Foster and Lillian (Slaunwhite) Hartlen.
Charlie was a fisherman until his retirement and then moved to the city. He was a great story teller and loved Newfoundland music. Charlie also was an avid bowler and loved for many years until ill health forced him to quit at the age of 89. He enjoyed watching sports on TV especially his favourite "Blue Jays ball games" and he also had a passion for curling.
Charlie loved his family dearly and is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Vince) Hackett, Halifax; Valerie (Neil) Harnish, Sambro; sons, Michael (Laura), Hammonds Plains and John, British Columbia. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Vera Murray, Halifax. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Viola; sons, Ronald and Stephen; sisters, Winnifred and Mayne; brother, Cecil.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, where visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 12-2 PM. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 2 PM from the funeral home chapel. Private family interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Charlie will be missed greatly by family and friends.
