Obituary of Gordon Shanks

Age 95, of Halifax passed away peacefully on April 5, 2017 at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born in Halifax, he a son of the late Harry Shanks and Mary Jane (McPhee) Shanks. Gordon was a proud and decorated veteran who joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the young age of 18. Gordon was an avid champion golfer as a member of the "Oakfield Golf and Country Club" he was ranked one of the top senior golfers and achieved a hole in one. He enjoyed league bowling and loved to dance. He also liked woodworking and tending to his greenhouse. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of over 71 years, Vivian (Allen) Shanks; sons, Larry, Halifax; Bill (Dorothy), Yukon; daughter, Barbara (Randall), Halifax; grandsons, Greg, Stephen, Kevin and Matthew; granddaughter, Mary-Anne; great grandchildren, Brittany and Vivian, and daughter in-law, Barb Charteris, Halifax; He was predeceased by his brother, Burton and sisters, Florence, Pearl and Gertrude. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. There will be no visitation. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date.
