It is with great sadness the family of Marie Frances Smith (Miller) is sharing the news of her passing Jan 3 2025. Marie passed away peacefully with family by her side, after a recent diagnosis of lung cancer. A woman with an indomitable spirit and resourceful nature, Marie confronted significant challenges and loses during her 87 years. Unfortunately, cancer was no stranger to Marie as she also fought a courageous battle with breast cancer in her previous years. Marie was the eldest daughter of the late Edmond and Frances (Delaney) Miller.


Marie leaves behind two sisters Florence Bellefontaine (Paul) and Brenda Lee to cherish their fond memories. Marie also leaves behind three children, Larry (Maureen), Jean and Marilyn (Keith) as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her siblings June, Edna and Teddy. Marie was also predeceased by three children Paul, Janet (Shanks), Kathy (Purcell) and grandson Joel Purcell.

In Marie’s early years she was very active in organized sports, playing softball, and bowling. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards, darts and bingo. She enjoyed her frequent walks to York Redoubt with her German Shepherd fur baby ‘Lucky’. She continued her interest in bingo playing weekly tv bingo with her daughter Marilyn and her granddaughter Ashley for the past several years. In her later years, Marie mostly enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren.


Marie worked for many years at the Victoria General Hospital, installing televisions for the patient’s enjoyment. She also worked for Northwood Manor in the dietary department as a floor supervisor.


As the time of her passing neared, Marie expressed her readiness and joy to be reunited with Paul, Janet, Kathy and Joel.


Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J Albert Walkers 149 Herring Cove Road. In keeping with Marie’s wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Stella Maris Parish (formerly St Michael's) 14 St. Michael's Avenue. Thursday January 23rd @ 11:00 with a reception to follow in the church hall. Marie’s ashes will be interned at a later date during a private family burial.


Rest in peace Marie. In our hearts you will remain forever cherished and loved.
