Obituary of Alex John Burns

BURNS, Alex John age 88 of Portuguese Cove.

With great sadness, we announce Alex John Burns's passing on Monday, December 16, 2024, at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born at Friar's Head (Cap LeMoine) Cape Breton on September 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Johnny and Annie Burns.

Alex was strong in faith, attending St. Anne's and St. Peter's Churches. He loved working outside, gardening, and returning home to Cape Breton. Alex worked as a bellman at the Nova Scotia Hotel and as a chauffeur for the City of Halifax's Parks and Grounds.

 Alex will be dearly missed by sons, John "Anthony" and Eugene (Helen Gilbert); adored grandson, Eugene " Alexander" Jr.; step-granddaughter, Cynthia MacDonald; step-great-granddaughter, Brendalee MacDonald; sister, Velma LeBlanc (Paul); cousins, Sarah Dozzi and Margaret LeBlanc; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie "Louise" (LeBlanc); brothers, Thomas (Marie Antoinette), Lionel (Mary Stella), and Roger (Mary); sisters, Lucy Dora Aucoin (Clovis), Lorettea Aucoin (Joseph Edmund), and Bernadette LeBlanc (Arthur).

In keeping with Alex's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. A memorial service will be held in the Spring at Saint Joseph du Moine Parish Church followed by a burial in the parish cemetery where Alex will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Marie "Louise".
