Obituary of Carla Michelle James

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, niece, and cousin, Carla Michelle James on October 12, 2024, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, NS, with her loving family by her side. Born in Halifax on September 20, 1962, she is a daughter of George and Patsy (Veniot) James . Throughout her life, Carla was a God-Fearing woman of strong faith.  Carla worked for Blue Ocean as a supervisor and manager. She was a person who always took charge and was known to boss people around, all the while being kind, loving and caring.  She was known to all as the neighborhood Mom.  Carla is survived by her parents, Patsy and George James, her loving partner, Michael “Mike “ Downey, her sons, Tyson and Nagel (Sheena), her daughter, Amy Downey, her siblings Christine, Darell, Van, Michael (Virginia), Marcus (Shelly), Justin (Megan), and Christopher (Sarah).  She also is survived by her grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart, Tyree, Ava, Shaylee, Lakia, Nakaya, Makai, her Godchildren, Nigeba and Uriah Black, and also by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was predeceased by her grandparents George and Rita James, grandmother, Rosena Veniot, nephew, Brandon Beals, grandchild, baby Zephaniah Downey, nieces, baby Faith West and Felicia Colley Williams, as well as her best friend, Elizabeth Black (Taga). 

The family would like to thank the nurses Monika, Catlin, and all the staff of 8.3 for the care they gave to Carla. 

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 12-1pm at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS, with a service in memory of Carla to begin at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel, with Bishop Edward Simmons presiding.  The service will be followed by a repass at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at a later date.  In honour of Carla, donations can be made to Word in Action Ministry
