Obituary of Patrick Joseph Omer LeBlanc

LeBlanc, Patrick Joseph Omer:  92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Halifax, Pat was the youngest son of the late Albany and Lucy LeBlanc.  At age 14, Pat began working as a labourer and then at 17 started as a plasterer with LeBlanc Construction.  In 1967, Pat began his 30 year career with the Halifax Shipyard as a Charge-hand of the Rigging Shop and a strong support of the local Union. He was a dedicated employee until retiring in 1997 at age 65. He also worked with his good friend “Hubert” as skilled Plasterers on his days off. Growing up in Spryfield, Pat played hockey with the Northwest Arm League and enjoyed being a member of the White Owl Rod and Gun Club.  In 1950, Pat met the most beautiful woman to ever come out of Newfoundland, Esther “Essie” Cluett, who he later married and together they started their large family.  In 2002, after 47 years of marriage, and a courageous battle with cancer, he sadly lost his beloved Essie. In 2006, Pat married his loving wife, Dorita, and was blessed with 18 wonderful years of happiness. Together, Pat and Dorita continued to enjoy life with bowling, playing crib, dancing and camping at St Mary’s NB.  For years Pat served his community with pride, running the Pat LeBlanc Bowling League for decades and most recently managing the Golden Age Centre where he and Dorita selflessly dedicated and volunteered their time. He was an active congregant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and developed wonderful connections with fellow parishioners and Clergy. Anyone who knew Pat, knew he was an avid sports fan who religiously cheered on the Montreal Canadien’s and Toronto Blue Jays. He also played guitar, loved music and listening to family play the old tunes. However, Pat’s passion was his family.  He loved his children, grandchildren and  great grandchildren dearly.  He always found time to show up and show love.  He gave his family our competitive nature and taught us to always try hard and do our best.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Dorita (Drisdelle), his children, Elizabeth, Sheila, Linda (Cyril), Stephanie (Howard), Stephen (Karen), Tryphena (Jeff) and Anna Perkins (Steven), 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Doris who is now 107 years old and the last surviving member of Pat’s immediate family. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, too many to mention, as well as many friends, former colleagues, and the community of Spryfield, all whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albany and Lucy, his dear wife, Essie, brothers, Val, Roy, Henry, Edgar, and Omer and sisters, Teresa and Eva.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Stella Maris Parish.  A reception will follow Mass in the church hall.  All are welcome to come and share memories of Pat.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Pat to the IWK or Autism NS.
