Obituary of Harold Arthur Whalen

Harold Arthur Whalen

December 6, 1964-July 18, 2024

It is will great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Son, Brother, Father, Uncle, Great Uncle and the nephew to many Aunts and Uncles and many cousins.

Harold Arthur Whalen was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on December 6, 1964.  Harold was the first born and survived by his father Harold Joseph Whalen and Lorraine Gail Whalen (Fitzpatrick). He is the oldest sibling of his sisters; Lisa Whalen and Leanne Dawn Beaumont (Whalen).

As a young, rambunctious child and teenager; Harold was the daredevil of our family. His love of dirt bikes, and four wheelers kept his mother worried for his safety and his father worried about the cost of repairing his "mishaps".  When he became a licensed teenage driver he often spent hours racing "the Family car" with the friends that were known to him and to many as "his brothers". His natural abilities to handle dirt bikes, four wheelers, and cars at excessive spends was a joy he loved and often bragged about. His other natural passions included fishing, boating and hunting, indeed he was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Upon graduation from JL Ilsey, Spryfield. Harold moved to Toronto, Ontario where he attended College and graduated with many new friends. He spent some of his adult life in Toronto where he worked on the construction of the SkyDome, before returning to Nova Scotia as a skilled tradesman.

After returning to his birth place, Halifax, Nova Scotia, he purchased his own camp, where he often enjoyed his family time with his son, Luke Harold Whalen. His passed along to his son, the same passions, love and respect of nature, fishing, hunting and four wheelers and together they enjoyed many hours of adventures and laughter, creating amazing memories.

Harold easily made friends and was a fan favorite amongst his family and peers. His natural sense of humor was brilliant. His kindness, remarkable. His integrity, genuine. His love of family and friends honorable, devoted. Everyone that knew Harold, has at least one, if not hundreds of funny, adventurous stories. He himself was a great storyteller and made many laugh. Harold's own personal life stories seemed to have a slight embellishment from time to time to enhance the impact of his tale tails.

His absence in our lives will forever be missed. His spirit now soars as natural as his larger than life presence was shared on earth. Harold's life was cut short but his memories we will always hold dear.

The graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at 11 a.m., at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville, NS B4E 3A6.
