Obituary of Mary MacDonald

MacDonald (Kennedy), Mary Rita: 82, Halifax, NS, formerly of Antigonish, NS, passed away in true Rita fashion on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Northwood Centre, Halifax, NS. Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late William and Hattie (Bond) Kennedy. Throughout her life, Rita was a homemaker, who dedicated much of her life to benefiting others by volunteering in various capacities, including, The Red Cross, Town Home Care, Ladies Auxiliary RCL Branch #59, Antigonish, and Salvation Army, Spryfield. Rita was a proud and organized lady who will be fondly remembered for her strong will and perseverance. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Florence MacDonald (Calvin Harris), Abbotsford, BC, and Susan Collings (Paul), Halifax, a brother, James (Catherine) Kennedy, Goshen, NS, and a grandson, Curtis W. Coles. Rita was predeceased by her parents, and son, William "Bill" MacDonald. Arrangements are under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (902.477.5601), where visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 10-10:30 AM. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. A reception and a time to remember Rita will also be held at a later date at Northwood. In memory of Rita, donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
