Obituary of Jaddus Joseph Poirier
Jaddus “Jad” Poirier, of Halifax, passed away on May 9, 2024, after a brief bout with cancer. Jad was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1942, in Allardville, NB, the son of Romeo and Julienne (Gionet) Poirier.
Following high school graduation, he joined the RCAF and served for 22 years, becoming a jet pilot while rising to the rank of Captain. Following his military service, he completed a Masters Degree in Education and taught in public schools for 22 years. Jad was an active member of the Spryfield Legion for 20 years and in his role as Service Officer, he provided invaluable assistance to many veterans and their families. He also chaired the annual Poppy Campaign for a number of years and played a pivotal role in elevating it to become the success it continues to be today.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as a sister, Marie, and brothers, Emile, Paul, Romeo and Ralph,
Jad is survived by his sons, Matthieu Lavigne (Alicia), Michel Gauthier, granddaughter, Savannah, as well as sisters, Yvonne, Georgette, and Jeannine and brothers, Howard, Gilbert and godson, Maurice.
A Legion Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Spryfield Legion, 7 Sussex St., Halifax on Saturday, June 1, 2024 during the hours of 2 - 5 pm.
