Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Crandall

There will be a celebration of Susan's life on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 1-4 PM at the funeral home.

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Elizabeth Crandall, widow of David Allan Wright, announce her passing in hospital on April 22, 2024. Born in Sydney, NS on December 29, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd (Bud) Crandall and Esther Fitch Crandall.  Susan grew up in Saint John, NB.

Susan worked for many years in both the public and private sector, and especially enjoyed working with Deputy Minister, Dennis Cochrane, and his team. She worked in several provincial ministries, including Education, Justice and Health, participating in writing and implementing programmes, as well as researching and advising on policy. She loved to garden and was a genuine foodie, able to prepare food as well as any chef. Her niece and nephews used to enjoy her cream cheese muffins, as well as the wide variety of meals and treats she would prepare for them. Susan was well read and informed, subscribing to several newspapers and magazines from NS, Canada and the US. She contributed to, and supported, cultural events in music, art and stage performance, volunteering in planning and carrying out events like Skate to Care. She married the love of her life, David, in 1992, and they enjoyed 25 wonderful years. They were each other's best friend. Together, they travelled the world, gardened, made wine, and sailed. They grew in their love and companionship until David's sudden death in 2017.

She was a wonderful wife, aunt, sister, and friend. She sought a close relationship with nieces and nephews, in both her and David's extended families. She loved being a grandmother to David's granddaughter, Tula, as well as to Wren's daughter, Onyx, and Jud and Emily's son, Vincent.  An animal lover, she had several rescue pets in her lifetime. Their Newf, Maggie, was as loved as any child.

Susan will always be remembered by her brothers, Scott (Bronwyn) Crandall of Long Reach, NB, and Brett (Linda) Crandall, of Maple Ridge, BC, step-sister, Kim (Wilbur) Fennel, Saint John NB.  She is also survived by nephews, Judson Crandall (Emily Saab), and Caleb Crandall, and niece, Wren Crandall, all of Saint John NB, as well as her grand- niece, Onyx Crandall, grand-nephew, Vincent Saab Crandall.  Susan is also survived by her cousin and close friend, Holly (Peter) Melanson, and close friend, Linda Harris, step- sons, Patrick Wright (and step-granddaughter, Tula Wright) of Montreal, and Christopher Hills Wright of Montreal. She will be remembered by David's brother-in-law, Gary (Betsy) Wright of Enfield, NS, sister-in-law, Ann (James) Vidito of Middleton, NS, step-nieces Kathryn (Timothy) White and Natasha (Jean Luc) Deveau, grand-nieces, Emily, Katie and Sophie and grand-nephew, Patrick.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Clyde Crandall, step-mother, Helen Crandall, and parents-in-law, Allan and Inez Wright.

Special thanks to Tina of Home Instead and staff of Parkland at the Gardens, Halifax, for their care and friendship.
