It is with sadness the family of Fay Barbara Cunningham of Halifax announced that Fay slipped away at the age of 82 on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Melville Lodge Care, after a lengthy illness. Fay was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on 4 March 1942. She was the youngest child of nine children born to the late Robert Edward Cunningham and Bertha (Tower) Cunningham.

Fay moved to Halifax as a young woman and started a lifelong career at Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Services as a Clinic Assistant. She traveled everywhere across Nova Scotia and PEI setting up and collecting blood at mobile blood donor clinics. The donors loved Fay. They were eager to chat with her and hear a new joke every time the clinic attended their community.

Fay was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her niece, Dawn-Marie (Everett) Erb, Michael (Susan), and Robert (Beth) of Kingston, New Brunswick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Two half-brothers, Douglas and Richard Cunningham and two half-sisters, Sandra and Bonnie also survived her, all from the Toronto area.

Fay was predeceased by her five sisters, Jean Johnson, Marjorie Nicely, Betty Byjeaux, Rita Waddell, Ruby Leblanc, and three brothers, Douglas, Jack, and Herman, and nephew, David Waddell Jr, nieces, Ruby Lynn Waddell, Debra Jean Waddell, and grandniece, Melanie Mae Erb.

On behalf of Fay's family, we thank the staff of Melville Lodge for their compassionate care. We also extend a special thanks to Linda Fleming of Halifax for being there for us and for her lifelong friendship with Fay.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of life is taking place at J. Albert Walker’s Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
