Obituary of Loraine Smith

(Hamm), Smith, Loraine Louis – 73, Sambro, passed peacefully while surrounded by family, and her loving husband of 52 years, Larry Robert Smith (Bubby), at Arborstone Enhanced Care at 5:14pm on January 12, 2024. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Louisa (Spiers) Hamm.

Loraine was employed by W.H Schwartz and Son LTD from September 1969 until September 1973, so she could devote her time and love to being a wife and stay at home mother.

Loraine was known for baking and her perishes. She made the best chocolate chip cookies, mustard pickles, and strawberry jam in the neighborhood. she enjoyed watching the Blue Jays play ball, but was an even bigger fan when it came to watching her son Mark play hockey.

Loraine had a green thumb; she took pride in her flowers and gardens. She especially enjoyed watching ‘her’ hummingbirds feeding from them.

She was survived by her siblings; Yvonne Hamm, Karla Paterson, Ava Jacqueline Hamm, Michael Hamm, Joanne Turner (Bob), her children; Paul, Mark, and Stephanie, and her grandchildren; Skyler Smith, Landen Henneberry, Stettson Henneberry, Fathom Smith, and Deagan Smith.

She was predeceased by her sibling, Perry Hamm.

A private Celebration of Life will take place August 11, 2024 (weather pending).

Loraine wished to have her ashes spread in the waters around the Sambro Island Lighthouse. Thereafter will be a celebration of her life on inner Sambro Island.
