We wish to pass our condolences to Joan and family. We are certain you will have many wonderful memories of your life with Spurgeon. We will never forget our friendship with your family, all starting in 1966 on arrival in Inuvik when Spud met us at the airport with a big hearty welcome to the Far North. It was his way, and it was a pleasure working with him. Spud was well respected by all those he dealt with as a flight service specialist. He always gave extra. He was especially proud of his family. Rest in Peace – our friend.

So lucky to have Joan and Spud as our neighbors when we moved to Atlantic View Dr back in 1979. Many great memories of such a kind and gentle man. Always loved his humor and his stories of their travels and experiences. After they moved from Atlantic View, we looked forward to his letter inside their Christmas card, with the latest news of what was happening with the Roscoe family. He was always so proud of each of them.
So happy that we were able to buy some books from Spud in early December and were able to have a visit at that time.
Joan and family care of each other and may the memory of such a special man be a comfort to you going forward. He will be watching over you.

When I first met Spud, he used to pick me up at my apt in clayton park with Joan and take us both to work at the VMB. Eventually I got my license and I'll never forget what he said to me. " Now that you have a car, you'll never have a bank account"...how true he was. He was a gentle giant of a man, and I, for one, will miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and family. R.I.P sweet man.

As a ham radio operator, I had the honour of knowing Spud while he was based on PEI. He was a wonderful man, who made friends easily and was manager of our ham radio Abegweit Award when it was created in 1973. He passed down that chore to me when he left PEI. Although we have had no contact in many years, he always remained in my memory bank RIP my friend de Bill VY2LI

I was one of the many students to whom Spud taught Amateur Radio, back in the 80s. I also had the privilege of his being my first ever on-air morse code contact after obtaining my license.
Great wit, fun teacher. Very sorry for your loss.

Joan and Family. I always enjoyed time spent with Spud as he always had an interesting story to tell. Shifts were never long enough when he started down that road of stories. I am thankful for the times spent enjoying lunches at Lower Deck, Clayton Park. He was such an enjoyable person to spend time with. We will all miss him.

Joan and family.
It's not often I'm at a loss for words but, well, this is one of those times. Offering condolences (which I am) just doesn't seem to be enough.
