Obituary of Maurice Vincent Gray
GRAY, Maurice Vincent- Age 89 of Sambro, passed away peacefully on May 1,
2023, 11 days before his 90th birthday with his loving family by his side. He was
a son of the late Francis and Audrey (Smith) Gray.
He was a loving husband and took pride in his family. Maurice worked for
Diamond/Tidewater Construction. Dad was a jack of all trades, always lending
and helping hand and took pride in all he did. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing,
hunting, and his camp back at Ragged Lake. Dad and mom enjoyed travelling
around in their camper and to the Newfoundland Jamboree.
He survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Schnare) Gray of 68 years; children, Roxanna
(Bob) Purcell, Teena, Maurice (Helen), Charlene (Peter), and Jill (Joe); nine
grandchildren;10 great grandchildren. Also survived by his sister, Ester Gilkie,
Evelyn (Gordon) Brown, Joyce Richardson, Jimmy (Gale), Frankie (Juanita);
sister-in-law, Eva Mae, and Lorraine; brother-in-law, Allan (Shirley) Schnare;
many nieces and nephews. Maurice was predeceased by brothers, Albert, and
Randel; son-in-law, David.
Maurice will be missed by his cat companion Bandit, who kept him occupied
while sick at home. A special, thank you to all of his doctor’s nurses, and
caregivers, Trisha, Lorraine, and especially his daughter, Jill. Deep gratitude to
Hospice Halifax for their wonderful care and compassion to Dad. Donations can be
made to St. James United Church, Sambro, or Hospice Halifax.
Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral
Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road. In keeping with Maurice’s wishes
there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Monday May 8, 2023, at
2 p.m. at St. James United Church, Sambro.
