Kay was a friend and teaching colleague of my mother. My childhood memories of the 1980s are made richer, more lovely, for the sprinkling of afternoon tea-time visits they held at Kay's neatly appointed Halifax apartment. I loved the warmth of Kay's voice, her kind eyes, and her incredibly welcoming energy. I felt a calm, peaceful joy in her presence. She made me feel I was being seen, heard, respected and valued as a person, not a child. She made people feel important. Speaking with Kay was to feel accepted and cared for. I was greatly affected by her in subtle yet profound ways as I outgrew and shed my childhood. She had quietly helped set a bar within me; I wanted to make other people feel the way she made me feel during those visits. Knowing Kay helped me understand the power we all have to make others feel seen, heard, respected and accepted. When we do that for each other with mindful intent, joy and magic result. She is a candle forever lit in every heart she's touched. Hers is a legacy of love in its best and purest form.
