Obituary of Alexander George Chisholm
The family of Alex Chisholm is saddened to share the passing of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather on Wednesday March 1, 2023 at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, NS, surrounded by his loving children, Sandy and Rosie after following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Alex was born in New Glasgow on May 3, 1943, and was son of the late James and Christina (Grace) Chisholm of Antigonish County. Alex is survived by his wife, Winnifred (Kehoe), his son and best friend, Alexander "Sandy", and his devoted and loving daughter, Rose Ann Hartlin (Mark). He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacob Hartlin, Jessi Leigh as well as his sister, Jean Swansburg, brother, John (Ann), both of New Glasgow and brother in-law Barry Wiggins (Ontario) and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Ann Wiggins and brothers Daniel (Melrose) Richard and brother- in-law Jack Swansburg.
Alex drove cab for Casino, Yellow Cab and a tour bus for over 30 years. He loved meeting new and interesting people while working, often giving them a historic tour of Halifax. He knew a little bit about everything, which allowed him to carry on conversations and make a lasting impression with anyone he met. He was avid reader of history with a special interest in Maritime marine history. He loved listening to stories about Sandy's fishing adventures and Rosie's trips or simply just an update on how your day was. His passion in life was his grandson, Jacob. He took a special interest in Jacob's education and sports. Grampie never missed a hockey game and was so proud of Jacob for becoming the hockey player he is today.
Special thanks for the support and loving care given by Dr. Kailee Sutherland, VON, his special angel, Kelly Swinimer, and dear friends, Sabrina Christie and Joan Curtis.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. As per Alex's wishes, a private family service will take place. In lieu flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Halifax Hospice.
