Obituary of Mary Sarah Lamond

Mary Sarah (MacNeil) Lamond, 68 of Halifax. 

October 09, 1954 - February 27, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister at Arborstone Enhanced Care with her loving husband at her side.  Born in Sydney Mines on October 09, 1954. Sarah was the daughter of the late Neil and Mary-Anne (MacMullin) MacNeil.

Sarah graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sydney City Hospital School in 1975. She was a very capable and caring nurse, employed in the surgical department of the Northside General Hospital for several years. An outdoor enthusiast, she and John enjoyed skating, cross country skiing, and camping in their earlier years. Later, Sarah enjoyed long walks exploring Halifax and meeting new friends over a cup of

coffee. Her many hobbies included baking, cooking, reading and health and fitness. For many years she enjoyed the Highland Games, watching her son’s band in parades and piping competitions, in addition to always cheering him on at his baseball and hockey games. Sarah was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, who she adored and treasured every moment.

She is survived by her loving, and dedicated husband, John; her son, Dr. Nathan Lamond whom she was so proud of, his wife Erin and her precious grandchildren William and Mairi. She is also survived by sisters, Vaughnie Avery (Jude), Audrey MacDougall (Lawrence); sisters-in-law, Suzanne Strickland, Sara Lamond (Tom Dunn), Elva MacNeil and Cora MacNeil, and brother-in-law, Bill Lamond (Carol-Anne), along

with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Neil and Mary-Anne; sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Theresa; brothers, Danny, Peter, Johnnie, baby James, James, sister-in-law, Hope, and in-laws, Dr. W.J. Lamond and wife Isabel, and brothers-in-law, David Lamond and Ray Strickland.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Valerie Lewis and to the caring staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care. 

Cremation has taken place. Honoring Sarah’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a private Celebration of Life will be held in Cape Breton at a later date.
