I had the pleasure of flying with sweet Elaine, only twice, during the pandemic. She was so kind, and her good eyes shone. She was grateful to me, as I had finished reading my book on the long flight back from Doha,, in order to give it to her. Elaine was my Mom's (Helen O'Brien) good friend as well as a friend of the family. I wanted to express our family's heartbreak at the news of Elaine's passing and also offer our prayers, thoughts and condolences. More than that, as I sometimes have to say of close friends we lose, we also want to express our gratitude. She lit up the room with that smile and was a comfort and reminder of good times and friends past. We all also have stories of running into her miles from home when she served on various flight crews. Those were always great little episodes. Elaine and I grew up next door to each other in Buchans. In fact, because it was a 4 unit house (like a town house), we had a bedroom wall in common. We made up our own version of Morse code and would tap out messages to each other on the wall. What fun we had. I have many good memories of her growing up. We didn’t see each other much after we left Buchans, but when we did she was always smiling and living life to the fullest. To Elaine’s family, our deepest condolences on your loss.
