Obituary of Joseph Peter Dober

DOBER, Joseph Peter

We are saddened to announce that Joe, age 67, of Halifax, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 8, 2022.  Born in Halifax on March 13, 1955, the second of five children, he was the son of the late Valentine Francis Dober and Mary Veronica (Emberley) Dober.

Growing up in Halifax’s west end, Joe was always playing sports, including baseball, hockey and ball hockey.  But baseball was where he excelled, playing with local teams such as the Hillcrest Beetles (Bantam) who played for the national title in Sarnia, losing in the championship game; and, the Halifax Pelham Electrics. Joe was one of the few Halifax ball players at that time who was asked to try out for the Montreal Expos. Joe was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and unfortunately a Leafs fan, always eager to watch the games. Joe also developed a love for golf, and summers would find him regularly on the course with a yearly trip to Digby Pines with 3 close friends.

Joe spent the majority of his working life at the IWK, retiring in 2019.


He is survived by his wife, Teresa Doyle; step-children Shawn Doyle (Amanda) and Stephanie Lane; grandchildren Hugo, Felix, Monty, Amelia and Pierce; long-time friend Roy Bennet; brother David (Carolyn); sisters Valerie Cranidge (Michael), and Maria Dober; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents, brother Paul, and nephew Ryan Cranidge.

Cremation and arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS. In keeping with Joes wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service held. A private family graveside will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fairview Legion, 50 Hillcrest Ave. 4-8pm on Thursday June 23.  To place words of comfort and condolence please visit www.walkerfh.com
