Since I moved from Halifax to Ottawa many years ago, my nephew, Andrew, and I have not been together more than a couple times.
Now, more than ever, I regret that.
Fortunately, over the past couple of years we reconnected and have had some great conversations by phone and online.
I will always remember being with my nephews, Matt, Chris, and Andrew, along with my niece, Amy, at mom's house on Rankin Drive. We were all much younger then. Andrew, was the youngest. He was always fun loving, always smiling, a good-looking kid with so much potential. He reminded me of me when I was young...at least the good-looking part...just kidding.
As he grew older and much taller, I often thought he would been a great cop. Ah well, my dream, not his.
Andrew, I know you are in a better place. Take care my nephew. Know that you are missed and that you are loved.

Went to school with Andrew and there wasn't a time that he was ever anything but the nicest guy in the world. Would stop and talk to me every time we crossed paths after school too. Your family is in my prayers. I'm so sorry for your loss and the loss of the community who are all missing and showing their love for what an amazing guy Andrew was.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was the children's and youth librarian at Captain William Spry Library when Andrew was a young teen. He and his friends hung out at the library quite a bit and he was one of the nicest people I ever met. One time I told him the first book I ever read when I was a child was Bartholomew and the Oobleck (Dr. Seuss ) and I couldn't find the recipe for Oobleck (green goop). I wanted to make it with the little kids. A couple of days later I found the recipe in my workbox with a note - from Andrew Higgins. A small thing, but one I have never forgotten. It truly shows how caring he was. I still have it. I lost track of him over the years but was fortunate to reconnect with him a few years ago on FaceBook. He was a remarkable young man and many people, including myself, are hurting at his loss.

Andy was a great friend, and was always there when I needed my best friend Sam, and him. Was the definition of a "True friend." As his girlfriend and my best friend would always say, "You both fight like siblings." Haha in a way I guess we were like siblings because I always considered Samantha my sister.
I'll miss yah Andy! Just know I always have Sam and your boys! They will be okay one day. Watch over us all big guy! Rest Easy. -I'll see you up there someday my man. Love you Andy.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Andrew's passing. I knew Andrew when he was in elementary school. Such a kind, thoughtful and respectful young man. Rest easy Andrew. You will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you.

I had the pleasure of working with Andrew many years ago at Walmart. He easily became one of my favourite people. He was the kindest most gentle person you could ever meet. You would never see him without a a smile or cracking a joke. I’ve ran into him a handful of times since ours days at #3636 and he was always the same. I’m so sorry for your loss. :(

I will miss my nephew Andrew’s old soul approach to life. I think that old soul had been here before many times, knew the ropes, got ‘er done and knew when it was time. The body wants to hang on for the excitement of the ride but the old soul knows when it is time. In his short 29 years he learned (or, already knew) all there was needed to know about living, laughing and loving.
Happy trails, Andrew; your forebears are smiling and waiting to greet you on the better side.
Such a sad time for those of us left. As Elliot wrote in “The Waste Land” . . .
April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
