Obituary of Kevin Paul Pelham

Age 65, Herring Cove, passed away at his home on August 11, 2016. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Peggy (Dempsey) Pelham Chase and the late J. Russell Pelham, and stepson of H. Allen Chase since teens. Kevin was predeceased by a brother, Stephen and a sister Melanie at birth, his father, and a fine brother Larry, who was lost at sea at age 33. As young brothers, they were very close making first communion together, tackling their first two wheel bikes, being altar boys, they even joined the RCAF together. They both enjoyed the company and cooking of their "Big Nanny", Dora Dempsey, who lived with the family. Kevin married and is survived by Heather (MacAskill) Pelham, the mother of his two children; daughter, Michelle Lea Pelham, grandson Austin A. Pelham, Herring Cove; son, M. Christian Pelham, grandson Ryder J. Pelham, Alberta. Michelle receives many thanks for her excellent loving care shown to her Dad during the length of time till his passing, giving recognition of her strengths. He will be remembered by many cousins and friends. An unfortunate truck/trailer accident in P.E.I. resulted in a broken back for Kevin, which led to three back operations and finally a liver transplant some twenty years ago. Never able to return to work, we thank Dr. Peltekian and Dr, Photopoulos and Kevin’s strong will to do things as he worked to keep his home and property so charming, again with help from Michelle and Austin. He was always his own person and remained strongly independent and brave to the end. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. Funeral service will be held Tuesday August 23 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church Herring Cove. Interment to take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery followed by a reception at the church hall. Donations in memory may be made with thanks to St. Paul’s Parish Office 137 Hebridean Dr. Herring Cove B3V 1H4 or the ALS Society NS/NB 900 Windmill Rd. Dartmouth B3P 1H7.
