Obituary of Margaret Goyetche

88: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Margaret Theresa Goyetche (Martell) of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mom passed away at home, with family at her side, on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Born August 18, 1932 in Poulamon, Isle Madame, NS, Margaret was the daughter of the late James and Helen Jane (MacPhee) Martell. She was the last surviving member of her family, which included six siblings.

Margaret was devoted to her family. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nan and Great-Nan. She looked after her six granddaughters through their toddler years, all who she loved and touched deeply. She was a living example of someone who believed in being kind and helping others.

She also shared her love with family by celebrating birthdays, holidays, and many other special days over the feasts she proudly prepared and presented. Everyone especially looked forward to her turkey soup, fresh made pies, strawberry squares and Christmas fudge. In addition to hosting family get-togethers, she endlessly mended, sewed and hemmed for the entire clan and many others. She was an exceptional seamstress who made wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, clothing for her daughters and granddaughters and drapery, often without a pattern and using only her keen eyes.

Margaret is survived by her closely knit Halifax family, including her sons Barry (Mary Hellstrom) Goyetche; Kevin Goyetche; daughters, Rosalyn Edmunds and Heather (Robert) Lynch; granddaughters Tracy (Paul) Clattenburg, Shauna (David) Dodge, Miranda Corbett, Kate Goyetche (Shawn McGee), Rebecca (Sven) Scholtysik and Marissa Lynch; and her precious great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Megan and Tyler Clattenburg, Jake, Carson and Cohen Dodge, Grace Corbett and Violet Smith. She is also survived by her former son-in-law, Murray Edmunds and sister-in-laws Joyce Martell and Olive Martell.

Margaret was predeceased by her devoted husband Raymond Alexander who waited a long 22 years to dance and play cards again with his beloved Margaret. She was also predeceased by her sister Mildred and brothers Donald, Harold, Henry, Alfred and Albert.

What a wonderful mother Margaret was. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
