Obituary of Frank Ian Hall

March 3, 1938 – December 21, 2020

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Frank Ian Hall announce his death on December 21, 2020 at age 82 at Melville Lodge in Halifax, Nova Scotia with his wife Louise and daughter Christine by his side.

Frank was born Francis Ian Hall, the youngest of six children to Robert J. Hall and Adeline Moineau, on March 3, 1938 in Montreal, Quebec. Frank also had a loving stepmother, Simone Hall, who raised him in Verdun. After schooling, Frank began work in engineering drafting and design and went on to have a distinguished career in international procurement and logistics management with various companies including ATCO, Volk Precision, Valens, and Krupp Canada, which offered him the opportunity to travel and explore the world and meet new people.

Frank had an exuberant personality and embraced his life to the fullest. “Francesco” loved travelling the world for work and with family, and always took great pleasure in a fine vintage, or a wee dram, or a rich expresso if he could raise his glass in someone’s company. Frank also loved adventuresome pursuits and his favourite was downhill skiing in Saint-Sauveur, Quebec as a member of the Martian Ski Club. It was on the slopes he met the love of his life, Louise, and they went on to ski around the world including Aspen, Switzerland, and Lake Louise. He also relished fishing in Northern Quebec and on the Bow River, playing golf everywhere but especially Willow Park, boating and rafting, and attending the annual Calgary Stampede.

Frank was a kind, caring, generous man to all. He might have been short in stature, but he had a huge heart and smile for everyone and loved and was devoted to his family. Frank will be dearly missed by family and good friends in his unmistakable and cherished Royal Stewart tartan tam.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Louise (nee Fortin), daughter Christine, son-in-law Kevin, daughter-in-law Celina, granddaughter Sophie, grandchildren Kyle and Kelcie, and a large extended

family across Canada. Frank was predeceased by his parents and siblings, his adored mother-in-law Sarah (Madame) and his cherished son, Jason.

Our family is extremely grateful to the healthcare heroes at Melville Lodge Long Term Care Centre, especially the East Unit nursing team, for their tireless care, kindness, and compassion given to Frank during the 2.5 years he lived there. You will always be remembered as part of our family.

A celebration of life will occur at a later date in Calgary, Alberta once travel is safe for all family and friends who wish to attend. Online condolence messages and memories are welcome and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Frank’s memory to the Melville Lodge Recreation Fund, 50 Shoreham Lane, Halifax, NS B3P 2R3 (902-479-1030).
