Obituary of Walter James Warner
90, of Halifax, passed away, Monday, June 27, 2016 at home. He will be sadly missed. Born in Halifax, August 27th, 1925, Walter was a son of the late Maude (Murphy) and John Warner and husband to the love of his life, the late, Caroline (Rafters) Warner.
He was a gentle soul, good natured, great humour with a quick wit. He loved a good time and could play the harmonica well. Walter was well liked by everyone the instant they met him and was easily recognized by co-workers long after he retired. Walter, at a young age, made his way to Ontario working on farms until he reached Mattawa where he was employed as a labourer helping to build hydro dams. After several years in Ontario he returned to Halifax to work as a Pipe Fitter at H.M.C. Dockyard until his retirement in 1987 with 36 years of service.
He is survived by son Kenneth (Lorianne), grandchildren; Megan (Lee) Rogers, Jason (Alicia), their mother Gwen Hill (Joe), nephew; Gary MacLeod (Marlene), brothers; Ernest, Ralph, Victor and Allan; sisters Lillian, Joan, Joyce, Theresa, Marion, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by daughter Geraldine Verge; grandson, James; stepmother; Sadie; brothers; Edward, Charlie, John (Pud), Elmer, Francis {Sugar}, Harold, Roy, and Gordon; sisters Dorie and Helen.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) ltd, 149 Herring Cove Rd, Spryfield where a visitation will take place Monday July 4 from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 5 at 11am at Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 14 St. Michaels Avenue, Spryfield. Father Jamie Utronkie officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Red Cross.
