Obituary of William Lorne Mercer

Age 71, Halifax, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017 at the Halifax Infirmary QEII. Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Llewellyn and Florence (Squires) Mercer. William had served with the Royal Canadian Navy, last ship to have served on was the HMCS Saguenay.

He was a long time employee of the Halifax Shipyards. He is survived by son, Robert; daughters, Shelly Ford; Lorna Harnish (Dwayne), all of Halifax; brothers, Wallace (Sandra); Noel (Jill); sisters, Florence Varanese (Mike); Linda Basher-Kerr (Ray); Marg Gomm (Gary); Karen Goldman, all of Ontario; sister-in-law, Shirley Mercer; grandchildren, Darrian, Jordan, Jennessa, Tyler,and Lyndsay and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Constance; brothers, Robert and Raymond.

Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. No visitation or service by request, interment to take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
