I am so sad to read that you have lost your dear father. I had known your mother for many years when we both worked at Halifax West High School and I know that your Dad must have been a wonderful man to have shared his life with your sweet mother whom I and so many teachers and students loved dearly. Sincerest sympathy. Eleanor MacDonald

I’ve only known Cyril, Mr. Hubley as we always called him, for the past few years. He was a daily visitor to my Dads, Lionel Welsh, on Cherry Lane, sometimes having a cup of tea, very seldom having a bit of lunch. He always had great stories to tell and most times, weather permitting, he had an armload of fresh garden vegetables. Mr. Hubley certainly brought light into my Dads life and will always be remembered fondly by the whole Welsh family.
Our sincere condolences to the Hubley family.

Dear Hubley Family,
In 1998, I met Cyril when he phoned me here in MA to tell me that my uncle, George Hubley, had died. While cleaning out George's house, Cyril had found a letter from me to my uncle. I had corresponded with him since WWII. But wouldn't have known he had passed if Cyril hadn't made that phone call. This is only one example of Cyril's generous spirit, his ability to go an extra mile and his wisdom about how to live a worthwhile life. Cyril is a model for the rest of us.
In 2005, my brother, Robie and I, met Cyril and Velma in their Halifax home. In the comfort of their kitchen, the two of them shared Hubley photos and stories. Their hospitality made it possible to meet Hubleys we never could have found without their help. And Cyril explained that my father, Bert Austen Hubley, was his first cousin.
Our search for family led to a journey to Germany with Frank and Joan. There in Eppingen, was a copy of the Protestant church record of our Hubley family. It ended in 1751 when our ancestors left for Halifax (Chebucto),Canada. In 2006, Cyril accompanied us to the South Shore Genealogical Conference in Lunenberg. We donated that copy of the Hubley family record to the South Shore Genealogical Society.
Cyril lives on in the work he facilitated and the goodness he shared with all of us.
