Obituary of Harry Melborne Harnish

Age 73 of Herring Cove, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry Melborne Harnish, who passed away peacefully on Saturday May 25, 2019, at his youngest daughter’s house surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on December 20, 1945 in Herring Cove, NS.  He was a son of the late Zenus and Florence (Goodall) Harnish.  He was a hard-working man, working for Goodall Trucking and Guilfords in his younger years.  Moving into the glass business which he took pride in every job he had done.  Starting with GM Kidston Glass for many years and ending his Glass career with Halifax Glass and Mirror Ltd to start his retirement.  Harry was an outdoors man and loved hunting and fishing especially on the weekends at his cottage.  He loved spending time with his family, attending to the gardening, going on 4-wheeler adventures, playing card games, having late night fires and ending every night going for a late-night drive on the Walton Woods Road listening to the oldies.  He always had to stop at a place he called “McCullochs” to listen for Coyotes.  He thought the world of his family especially his grandchildren.  Harry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth (McCulloch) Harnish; daughters, Jean (Keith) Blaxland, Sheila (Ronnie) Smith; grandchildren, Brayden, Keith and Trenton; brothers, George, Danny, David, Donny and Randy; sisters, Barbara, Pearl and Nancy; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by bothers Jasper, Albert and Raymond; sisters, Iris, Marie, Margaret, Brenda and June.  A big thank you to the palliative care unit especially Amber Phillips and the VONS for the care they gave and offered dad and support they gave to the family.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd.  In keeping with Harrys wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday June 1, 2019 at St. James Anglican Church, Herring Cove. With Rev. Helen Ryding officiating the service.  A burial will be held at the church cemetery following the funeral service.  A gathering will follow at the church hall. Donations can be made to the St. James Anglican Church in lieu of flowers.
