Obituary of Roy Brien Dorrington
Age 71 of Halifax passed away Saturday April 21, 2018. He was a son of the late William Earl and Patricia Marie (Thomas) Dorrington of Beechville. He had many accomplishments such as being a pitcher for the Halifax Expos baseball team. Also, as a painter and mason by trade, department boss of Sears Canada, Morden Dental Lab, Lafont and Marston, Darrington Denture Clinic, NSIT Trade School, drywalling and autobody repair work. Roy was a line cook at Clipper K Restaurant, The Chateau and Our Place Restaurant. He was on his way to obtaining his Chef's certificate when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He also enjoyed fishing & hunting. Roy was a member and was baptized at Beechville Baptist Church and over the years also attended Cobequid Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children Deborah Barrett, Ontario; Lynn Ryan, Halifax; Rhonda Fraser (Tony), Ottawa; Roy Jr. Dorrington (Darlene), Ontario; Eddie Pichette (Annie) MTL, Darren Dorrington (Catherine), Ottawa; Deanne Dorrington, Ottawa; stepdaughter Janice Oliver, Spryfield; brothers, Carl (Joan) Spryfield; Russell (Beverly), Ontario; Earl (Darlene), Timberlea and Donald, Spryfield; sisters, Margaret Williams (Deacon Bruce), Lower Sackville; Donna Symonds, HFX; Linda Fletcher, B.C; Dorothy Williams (late Robert), MTL; Ruby Farmer (Stephen) Spryfield ; sister in-law, Martha Blackmore, Beechville; 28 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon Blackmore; sisters Barbara, Phyllis, Maureen and Pauline; grandson Peter Craig Barrett, Uncle Deacon Leslie Dorrington (Helen) and Aunt Eileen Wright (Cecil)
Special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Margaret Rowicka, his palliative care team at the QE2 site, VON nurses, especially Paul, Melanie, Nicole, Lexie and Emily and all of the medical care team that has been involved with Roy’s care over the years. Special Thanks to friends Dorothy Wright, Jean Miller and Ron and Mary Hine for the many bake goods and visits. Thank you to Rev. Tracy Grosse and Rev Carl Price for all the visits over the years and to the Cobiquid Road Baptist Church.
