Obituary of Michael J. Kersey

KERSEY, Michael John – passed away peacefully at his home in Sambro on July 30, 2017. Born in Vancouver on July 4, 1958, he was a son of Elizabeth Kersey and the late William Kersey. Mike was employed in the glass industry for many years, the later of which at Halifax Glass Company.  Mike had a strong work ethic and deep loyalty to family and friends.  He was fastidious and was always there to help – no questions asked. Mike is survived by his son, Marshal; brother, Glen and sisters, Shelley and Nancy (Steve).  He is also survived by nieces, Shelby and Emily and nephew, Jackson.  He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick.    He enjoyed the company of many friends.  Special mention is made of Robert Corbett and Peter Martin.  Their help and presence were much appreciated during this very sad time.  He took great pride in his community and loved the generosity and kindness of his neighbours.  Mike described all his friends as "top drawer".  Mike loved the ocean and was always delighted at having spent a day on the water with his best friends or his son, Marshal.  His recap of the day would inevitably include interesting details or facts about a particular fish or bird he saw during his trip. His deep and abiding love for his son, Marshal was obvious.  There was nothing he would not do for his son. A Farewell Service to Mike will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.  No flowers by request.  Interment will be held at a later date.  In Memory of Mike, please perform an act of kindness to someone in need.
