Obituary of John J. Henebury

Henebury, John Joseph:  69, Beaver Bank, NS, passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital, Halifax, NS, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 6, 2016, following a brave battle with cancer that he fought with dignity and positivity.  Born in Point May, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Effie (Noseworthy) Henebury.   John had been employed with Infasco Docap, from where he retired following 27 years of service.  Then after retirement he worked a short time at the CRA forms warehouse until it closed.  John was a quiet, soft spoken and intelligent man with a great memory for events, people and trivia.  He was a man who loved his family, his sister Margaret and brothers, Art, Ray, and Carl, as well as Valerie's siblings, as if they were his own.  John was a good family man who is so proud of his son Christopher, daughter-in-law Amy, and grandson Landen.  In his teen years on summer vacation, along with his brothers, he helped his dad, who was a carpenter by trade. After high school, he went to vocational school where he received an electronics diploma and had the ability to fix almost anything, televisions, radios, appliances, and cars.  This ability came naturally to John and he has passed on his knowledge to Christopher.  John met the love of his life, Valerie when he was 19 years of age.  After a few years of marriage, he, with the help of family, cleared land and built a home in Beaver Bank to start his family life.  John and Valerie have had wonderful neighbours over the years and are so grateful for their help and friendship. In his younger years, he was in a bowling league.  He was a top bowler and won many trophies.  In recent years, he enjoyed his pool table and winning most games against family and friends...hey Chris! He had a positive attitude on life and for many years had bravely fought the battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Valerie (Oakley), his son, Christopher (Amy), Timberlea, his grandson and the apple of his eye, Landen, along with another soon-to-be grandchild.  He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his brothers, Raymond (Kathleen) Noseworthy, Harbour Breton, NL, Carl (Paulette) Henebury, Bridgewater, and Arthur Henebury, Lower Sackville, his sister, Margaret Pye (Patrick), Lower Sackville, sisters-in-law, April Henebury, Lower Sackville, and Judy Henebury, Halifax, NS, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Effie Henebury, his twin brother, James "Jim" Henebury, brother, William "Bill" Henebury, a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Gordon Drysdale, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Henebury. The family would like to thank all the medical and care staff, especially oncologist Dr. Nathan Lamond for his knowledge and compassion he and his staff gave over the years and to Barb Stewart, Palliative Care Nurse Coordinator during the last few months. We are forever grateful. As per John’s request, cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (902.477.5601).  A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Lower Sackville, NS.  Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cobequid Health Centre.  Words of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
