Obituary of Marjorie Marion MacLeod (Jones)
Halifax, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Emery) Jones, born in London England on April 15, 1917. Her family immigrated to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in 1920 where she was raised. Marjorie trained as a Registered Nurse at the Jeffery Hale Hospital, Quebec City, graduating in 1941. She was immediately placed as a supervisor in that hospital in recognition of her excellence in organizational skills. She held increasingly senior nursing management positions at hospitals in Alberta and Nova Scotia, culminating in her work as Hospital Superintendent, Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. She married Max MacLeod of Trenton, Nova Scotia in 1955 and left her career to raise a family. A member of the United Church of Canada, Marjorie was a Lifetime Member of the United Church Women, a Sunday Church School Teacher, a Presbytery representative, and a delegate at Maritime Conference. Of note is her work as a Commissioner to the General Council, an elected position chosen by United Church peers in honour of a person’s wisdom and devotion. Marjorie was an avid reader, particularly of history, and enjoyed travelling in later life. She was always interested in current events and even during her final illness wanted the newspaper read to her daily.
She was predeceased by her husband, Max, and is survived by daughter Susan (John Allen), Halifax, son Kenneth (Karen Krug), Saskatoon, brother, Ken Jones, Whitby, Ontario and four grandchildren, Michael and Grace Allen, Halifax, and Alana and Julie Krug-MacLeod, Saskatoon as well as by nieces, nephews, her generous companion Yvette, and beloved "adopted" daughter Kathy. They remember her fondly.
